VOLUNTEERS' PERSONAL EXPERIENCES
So, why do people volunteer to work at the M.O.R.E. Center? There are many reasons. We’ve asked some of our volunteers to share their experiences with you.
"I have been volunteering since October of 2007. I come twice a month, with my mom. I really enjoy helping elderly people, moms with young children, and a few people with oxygen. I really look forward to working. I feel bad when people I know come in, but I am not allowed to tell anyone. I’m 12 and home-educated, so I can come. I’m glad I did."

"I volunteer most of the time in the 'shopping area'. I feel this contact with the clients is a blessing to me, because it makes me realize I am only a step away from being a client myself."
Dee DeMoch
"I like working here because it helps with my community. All clients are treated with respect and dignity--an important part of them coming here. It’s only a few hours a month, but gives back to the community. All the staff make me feel welcome. The majority of the clients say 'thank you' and really mean it."

"I feel the new M.O.R.E. Center is a great asset to the community. It gives a 'helping hand' to many families in Marengo and Union. I am impressed with the building’s facilities; food pantry, clothing, household items for those in need, and its large 'community room' and kitchen that residents can use for social functions. As a volunteer, at the food pantry on Wednesday mornings, I am amazed at the generosity of the many people who give their time and donations"
Sue Prahl
"Until 2003, I knew we had a food pantry here in Marengo, but wasn’t really concerned until my retirement, when I was asked if I could fill in on the following Wednesday. Since I was looking for something to fill my hours, I agreed. That’s all it took to get me hooked. Since then, when I was asked to help out, I’ve always made time. Since our new building was built, I was asked if I could help out weekly. I was so honored, as this program really brought out the Proverb, 'It’s more blessed to give than to receive.' Now, I look forward to every Wednesday and new challenges."
